Compounding

Do you have prescription compounding needs?

We compound prescriptions regularly at our pharmacy. A compound is a medication that has to be made by the pharmacist because it is not available from a manufacturer in the format or strength you need or may not containg the ingredients prescribed by your doctor.

A common example is Prevacid in a liquid or suspension form. It only comes in capsules and tablets from the drug manufacturer, so a pharmacist must prepare it in a liquid form for certain customers. Other compounds may be made into creams, ointments, and suppositories, or capsules.

Almost any kind of medication can be compounded. Compounded prescriptions are ideal for any patient requiring unique dosages and/or delivery devices, which can take the form of solutions, suppositories, sprays, oral rinses, lollipops and even as transdermal sticks.

Compounding applications can include: Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy, Veterinary, Hospice, Pediatric, Ophthalmic, Dental, Otic (for the ear), Dermatology, Medication Flavoring, Chronic Pain Management, Neuropathies, Sports Medicine, Infertility, Wound Therapy, Podiatry and Gastroenterology.

Prescription compounding is a rapidly growing component of many physicians’ practices. But in today’s world of aggressive marketing by drug manufacturers, some may not realize the extent of compounding’s resurgence in recent years. Ask your physician if compounding may be the solution to your needs.
